People generally refer a high resolution game as VGA game but what type of high resolution are we actually talking about?
4:3 5:4 16:9
VGA = 640 X 480
SVGA = 800 X 600
XGA = 1024 X 768
SXGA = 1280 X 1024 WXGA = 1366 x 768

How about colors?
8 bit color = 256
16 bit color = 65,536 (high color)
24/32 bit color = 16,777,216 (approx. 16.7 million; generally referred to as "true color")

The human eye is popularly believed to be capable of discriminating between as many as 10 million colors.

Which types are popular in the market?
In the arena of high resolution games, VGA is actually out-dated. However, they are still in production and are regarded as "new" (in video slot/poker type game) by many. A few makers have already used SVGA; the others are changing too and will catch up soon. SVGA with 16 bit color shall be popular gradually. Except in high end market, you don't see (too many) XGA in video slot/poker type game (especially in dedicated board platform and not using PC ). However, a handful of makers may attempt to do that as well in the short future.
